The Tokyo Auto Salon is on again in January, giving manufacturers and specialist tuners an opportunity to pull out concepts and new performance variants of existing models.

For 2011, Nissan has a full nine concepts planned for the popular enthusiast event. While most of them are not available in Australia, the Nissan LEAF electric vehicle - expected to launch locally in 2012 - is set to get a special makeover for the event.

Fitted with a number of aerodynamics-focused body components, the LEAF Aero Style Concept has been designed to "express an image of futuristic sport EV driving."

A special version of the new Nissan Micra will also be on display, featuring a plated mesh grille and an interior highlighted by wine-coloured horizontal-striped seat materials.

Among Nissan's other models on display will be the popular NISMO-tuned 370Z, offering 261kW and a number of specialised handling, aerodynamic and styling tweaks.

The Motul Autech GT-R SuperGT race car will also be on display, along with a number of Japanese- and overseas-market models including the Elgrand Rider Premium Concept, the Juke Sporty Package and the Serena Rider.
