We’ve previously been told it will be called the Spec-V due to trademark issues in one or more of its new markets but Nissan are still calling the soon to be revealed warmed over GT-R the V-Spec (Victory Specification) so we’d better as well...

News through overnight suggests that the oft rumoured V-Spec is actually in existence and may even make an appearance at next months Geneva Motor Show.

AutoExpress claim to have the goods on the GT-R ‘with the lot’ and its impressive to say the least. Nissan are believed to have turned up the wick on the standard 353kW/473hp VR38DETT twin turbo 3.8-litre V6 and extracted an additional 16 percent boost in power. To save you doing the math, that puts the V-Spec’s power output at a whopping 410kW/550hp.

Expect to see pictures of the GT-R V-Spec circulating the Nurburgring before too long – while this version of the GT-R has been built to sell, for Nissan it will have a dual purpose. It will be used to better the standard GT-R’s blistering Nurburgring lap time of 7min 38secs.

Achieving the level of performance that Nissan is aiming for is not just a case of turning up the boost. Nissan are also expected to relieve the V-Spec of around 150kg of ‘dead weight’. We’re not sure if that means that you still get a stereo or not...

An improved aero kit will ensure that the V-Spec generates plenty of downforce at speed. It would also be fair to assume that Nissan will have fiddled with drive software as well, perhaps tuning out some of the understeer noted recently by Fifth Gears Jason Plato. Bigger brakes would also be a logical and expected edition.

Pricing is unknown, but word is the V-Spec will come with something akin to a forty percent premium over the standard GT-R. Which given the expected performance means it will be a bargain.
