To those who know their GT-R’s the fact that Nissan is believed to be looking into producing a four-door version of their R35 GT-R, shouldn’t be a big surprise. After all, you could buy a four-door R33 and R34 GT-R.

What is surprising is just how good it may look. If these Motortrend renderings are anything to go by, then its fair to say that a four-door version of the R35 GT-R has the potential to look stunning. Looking more like a four-door coupe than a saloon, the stretched GT-R has the potential to upstage the likes of Porsche's upcoming Panamera.

The conversion to four doors would obviously require quite a bit of re-engineering but it is believed the GT-R saloon would retain the same suspension and drivetrain, including the rear mounted dual-clutch gearbox.

While a sedan version of the GT-R would probably not carry over the carbon-fibre panels of the coupe, stretching the wheel base will most likely result in an improved ride and even better handling, making it a win-win for the family guy in a hurry.

It is envisaged that a GT-R based saloon would be sold as an Infiniti in North America, where it would face off against the four door sports saloons currently sold by the likes of AMG, Audi, BMW and Lexus with their new ‘F’ line. If it came to Australia it would most likely retain the Nissan badging.

Lets hope the rumour is true!
