Nissan is the latest carmaker to send its self-driven vehicles out into the real world, with a new testing program underway in London, England.

Ahead of debuts for the autonomous tech in the carmaker’s Qashqai SUV and Leaf electric car, Nissan will offers Londoners the chance to be chauffeured around the city by the self-driven test cars.

The Qashqai and Leaf will soon be able to navigate their own ways during single lane driving on motorways, but first, members of the public and government officials will get firsthand experience on London’s city streets.

"Government and industry are working together to build on our world class reputation for excellence as a leading location for automotive R&D and manufacturing," UK Business and Energy Secretary, Greg Clark, said.

"We want to see centres, like Nissan's in Cranfield, continue to develop, making us a world leader in the development and testing of auto technology so we can anchor the next generation of vehicle manufacturing and its supply chain here in the UK."
