Next-Gen BMW 3 Series EV Variant To Do Battle With Tesla Model 3 – Report

In late 2017 the F30-generation BMW 3 Series will have been in the market for six years - retirement age for passenger cars.

Replacing it will be an all-new model using BMW’s new G-series architecture, which is expected to bring with it an all-electric capability to help it stave off competition from the so-hot-right-now Tesla Model 3.

A report published by UK outlet Auto Express details says the new 3 Series will follow in the footsteps of the current generation 7 Series and incorporate carbon fibre and aluminium in its construction to help shed weight. Its mixed-media structure will be enabled by the switch to BMW’s high-tech CLAR platform, which will eventually be applied to other models as well.

The 2018 3 Series will continue to be offered with a range of three, four and six-cylinder engines along with a plug-in hybrid, however an all-electric model is expected to join the 3 Series family as well.
