Next gen 2008 Nissan 350Z to share GT-R V6

According to GoAuto the next gen Z (or ‘Zee’ as the Americans like to call it) is going to feature naturally aspirated GT-R power. GoAuto’s Nissan sources have confirmed that the 350Z replacement will be codenamed Z34 and will feature the VQ37VHR 3.

According to GoAuto the next gen Z (or ‘Zee’ as the Americans like to call it) is going to feature naturally aspirated GT-R power. GoAuto’s Nissan sources have confirmed that the 350Z replacement will be codenamed Z34 and will feature the VQ37VHR 3.7-litre DOHC 24-valve V6 expected to be the basis of the 2008 GT-R twin-turbo powerplant. As a result there is some speculation that the 350Z will become the 360 or 370Z.

The first Nissan to use the new VQ37VHR V6 is the G37 Infiniti and in ‘Infiniti tune’ the engine produces 246Kw/366Nm. The new engine uses a combination of hydraulically controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift to achieve large gains in efficiency resulting in more power and lower fuel consumption when compared to the previous V6.

The current Z33 350Z has recently seen the introduction of the smaller VQ35HR 230Kw/358Nm 3.5-litre V6 which will see it through to the final curtain call in late 2008. It is expected that the Z34 will be an evolution of the Z33 maintaining the same basic layout but with a completely redesigned body, wider track and improved suspension compliance. Interior quality is expected to improve with more use being made of ‘soft-touch’ materials. The new Z34 350Z is due to make an appearance in late 2008.
