Porsche's Coupe SUV on the Way
Porsche’s answer to the Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe and the BMW X6 has been confirmed to be well on the way to showrooms in Europe.
The coupe variant of the popular Cayenne SUV will be on sale in Europe in the coming northern autumn (from September), with the model - and more details including its name - to be unveiled before the end of the month.
"The Cayenne Coupe is a very important car for us. It’s a very good looking car,” said Marcus Eckermann, Managing Director of Porsche Cars Great Britain in an interview with Autocar.
Clearly envisaged as more of a niche offering, Eckermann said that “I don’t think it will make up as much as half of the overall Cayenne line-up mix (in the UK), but it will be a good share of it.”
The new model will share most of its parts - both mechanically and cosmetically - with the third-generation Cayenne, and will go toe-to-toe with Mercedes’ and BMW’s coupe SUV offerings, which have been on the market since 2015 and 2008 respectively.
Spy shots of the new Porsche model, which will have a sloped back like the GLE and X6 - have shown it undergoing winter testing in Germany in preparation for its final release. The SUV is intended to be a performance model.
