Peugeot has unveiled its second-generation 2008 SUV that brings it visually line with the more recent releases from the French carmaker and delivers another small SUV to the crowded market.

Described as “ultra-technological”, Peugeot says the 2008 is its vision for the future in its gushing press release.

“[The 2008] shows that technology and pleasure are not incompatible and that a car has the power to amaze. It turns a trip into a journey and offers everyone the mobility they need.”

On the surface, the new 2008 is sleek and sharp like it’s larger 3008 stablemate, with the company saying “the car sits well on its wheels, perfectly shouldered, strong and reassuring.”

Most of the 12-page press release uses the same tone, so Peugeot is clearly excited by the potential for the new model.

Of note for interested buyers, the new 2008 will have an all-electric counterpart, with all four levels of trim available in EV.

The electric version of the 2008 will be the same as the internal-combustion options, and no interior space (passenger or boot) will be sacrificed for the 50 kWh battery installed under the floor of the vehicle.

The e-2008’s powertrain will be a single electric motor that can put out 136 horsepower, and drawing on the modest battery will offer a range of up to 312 km.

The tech’s not just all for the EVs though, the combustion options all keep up with the latest in Euro 6 standards.

No price details have been released yet, but the 2008 should be rolling into dealerships before the end of this year in Europe—so likely in 2020 for Australia.

The first-generation 2008 was first unveiled in 2013.
