The next-generation Range Rover Evoque has aced its Euro NCAP tests this week, earning a five-star safety rating.

The new model, which is the second generation of the popular small SUV received an adult protection rating of 94 percent, a child protection rating of 87 percent, a pedestrian protection rating of 72 percent and a safety assist technology rating of 73 percent.

All those high scores add up to the Evoque being the safest Land Rover to hit the roads ever tested by Euro NCAP—or the European New Car Assessment Program, Australia’s ANCAP safety counterpart.

The new Evoque’s ratings put it well ahead of its first generations score, even with the tougher Euro NCAP scoring system used compared to the one in 2011, when the first generation first became available.

Modern driver assist technology was singled out by Euro NCAP’s general secretary Michiel van Ratingen, who said that said that “it's good news that some of the basic driver assist technologies will finally be mandated from 2022, but thankfully most vehicle manufacturers are already way ahead of the curve today.”

Maximum points were awarded to the Evoque for its automatic emergency braking system when tested at city speeds, no doubt helping its high safety assist technology score.

The new Evoque will be available in Australia this year.
