German Luxury Brands Battle for Lead in US
The German luxury brands are jostling for first place in the US, with BMW’s sales figures for the first half of the year showing it has pulled ahead of Mercedes-Benz in vehicles sold.
BMW’s X3 SUV’s rolled off dealership lots 7,052 times in June alone, while the X5 found homes in 4,473 households and 2,214 X7’s were sold.
The SUVs have lead the brands surge in sales, with deliveries increasing by 7.5 percent last month to 31,627.
The three models accounted for over 43 percent of total sales in the US, so it’s little wonder BMW is chuffed with the performance.
Merging Mercedes’ passenger vehicles and van sales, Mercedes sold 29,275 units in June, falling behind BMW.
However the three-pointed star still leads overall in 2019, with year-to-date sales clocking in at 163,917—well ahead of BMW’s 156,440.
Mercedes has lead sales in the luxury segment in the US for the past three years running, though so far in 2019 sales are down by 7.1 percent overall, while BMW is up by 2 percent.
However if you include sales from BMW’s Mini marque—where sales have been abysmal—total BMW sales in North America are down by 1.1 percent year-to-date.
