Porsche today unveiled its latest iteration of the prestige SUV that everybody seems to love to hate but worldwide sales figures seem to prove 'everybody' grossly wrong. True to form of late, Porsche's latest Cayenne comes in a series of garish colours; perhaps to prove to the rest of the world 'your' Porsche is a special one.

To show that the Cayenne is as capable (and successful) off-road as it is on, the Porsche Motorsports Cayenne team has successfully completed and won (again) the Transsyberia Rally - one of the most demanding motor sports adventures in the world. To mark this third success, the Cayenne S Transsyberia model has been developed as a road-going version from the rally winning version.

The new Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia comes with model designation decals on the sides (similar to the Porsche motorsport derived RS models) and four spotlights on the roof (to show your Cayenne S means business when you head 'out bush').

For the exterior, there are four colour options to choose from: Black/Orange, Crystal Silver Metallic/Orange, Meteor Gray Metallic/Crystal Silver Metallic and Black/Meteor Gray Metallic. To complete the exterior additions are 18-inch Cayenne S II wheels and a fixed bi-plane roof spoiler to complete the rally look.

The engine from the normal Cayenne S model is carried over with no power changes, but that's no bad thing. The 4.8-litre naturally aspirated V8 with direct fuel injection (DFI) is a cracker of unit with masses of torque, 500Nm at 3500rpm. Accompanying the 4.8-litre V8 on song is the powerful sound of the Cayenne sports exhaust as standard.

Although the engine remains untouched, the standard six-speed manual gearbox has been tweaked for lower top-end speed, but acceleration is bettered by the use of a shorter final drive ratio for improved acceleration and agility. This change has quickened the 0-100kph sprint from the Cayenne S model's 6.8 seconds to a even more impressive 6.1 seconds (6.5 seconds for Tiptronic transmission fitted models) for the Transsyberia.

Porsche's usual range of road-holding technologies including Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Automatic Brake differential (ABD), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with six ride height settings are all found as standard on the Transsyberia model.

Interior changes include extensive use of Alcantara throughout - on seats and steering wheel - the latter also featuring a rally inspired straight-ahead marker. A digital compass read-out on the instrument cluster ensues you will never get lost if the GPS unit gives up on your way to the supermarket.

Pricing by Porsche Australia has not been released, but with this model's specs placing it between the Cayenne S ($134,500) and Cayenne GTS ($153,500) models, expect it to be selling on our shores for close to $150,000 - possibly more.
