AMERICAN INDYCAR STAR Danica Patrick will compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series next year after signing a two-year deal with JR Motorsports.

Patrick will compete in an unspecified number of events, allowing the 27-year-old to remain a full time member of the IndyCar series, where she finished fifth overall and was the leading US driver.

But reports suggest Patrick will compete in at least the first three and last six races of the Nationwide Series next season.

Patrick said she is looking forward to the prospect of competing in the US? most popular form of motorsport.

?I'm very excited. We've all been working very hard for sometime to bring these all together,? she said.

?There's much relief there but I'm staarting to get a little bit nervous and now it's time to do my part of the deal and get out there on these cars and perform. It's no doubt going to be challenging.?

However, the former IndyCar Rookie of The Year said open-wheel racing would remain he priority for the time being.

?It is going to be demanding. It's going to be a very full schedule, that's for sure. I'm ready for it,? she said. ?I think when the idea and the rumours came about a few years ago to run some NASCAR stuff I wasn't quite as prepared mentally as I am now.

?Over the years I've had an increasingly busy schedule and I feel like there almost will be more consistency to the schedule than what I've had in the past year or two.

?I'm finally ready. I think that the schedule doesn't intimidate me as it used to, but there's going to be a lot to learn.?

Patrick will complete a three-day test in the Automobile Racing Club of America Stock Car series in November before making her debut in February at Daytona.
