Hot on the claws of the incoming Ford Ranger Raptor, traditional crosstown rival HSV has extended warranty coverage for its competing Colorado Sportscat.
The new five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty not only matches its rival but joins Holden, which supplies the Colorado to HSV, with its recently lifted five-year/unlimited km coverage.
HSV will apply the new warranty to Sportscat and Sportscat+ models sold from July 1, 2018 along with five years roadside assistance.
The Sportscat features the same drivetrain as the Holden Colorado but the Special Vehicles team adds off-road and performance-oriented equipment such as forged 18-inch alloy wheels with Cooper all-terrain tyres, a wider track, rear de-coupling anti-roll bar, sports suspension, AP Racing brakes, modified brake master cylinder and optional Supashock suspension with external oil reservoirs – and the closest factory competing setup to the Ford Ranger Raptor’s Fox Shocks.
There's also a myriad of exterior styling changes including the addition of a sail plane tailgate that Drive experienced some issues with in its arduous outback ute comparison test last month – though HSV says it had addressed one of the faults in production vehicles.
The ute segment is the top-selling car market in the Australia and HSV managing director Tim Jackson says the extended warranty will help the brand tap into more sales.
“We’ve been delighted with the level of acceptance of our first new foray into the 4x4 pick-up market, and the availability of a 5 year warranty, with 5 years roadside assistance, will only further strengthen the vehicle’s appeal.”
Compared to its new arch rival the Raptor, the Sportscat doesn’t feature as heavily modified suspension and chassis changes, though it is quicker from a standstill to the ton, with HSV claiming the Sportscat “the most dynamic sports 4x4 on the market.”
