An arrival date has been confirmed for Volkswagen's new baby SUV.

The German brand has released a teaser sketch of its upcoming T-Cross, an urban soft roader that will sit under the Tiguan and has been earmarked for local deliveries.

Due to be revealed in full production trim in September, the T-Cross will expand Volkswagen's SUV offering to five models sitting alongside the T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and new Touareg.

It will measure 4107mm long - 300mm shorter than the five-seat Tiguan - and will be exclusively offered with a front-drive configuration and have a sliding back seat that provides a flexible, and spacious, cabin.

Volkswagen has confirmed the T-Cross will be fitted as standard with the latest active driver aids, such as automated emergency braking and lane keeping assistance, but has yet to reveal any more mechanical details.

However, it is expected to feature a range of powertrain options, with entry-level models understood to be driven by the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine from the latest-generation Polo.

Stay tuned to TMR for further details of the Volkswagen T-Cross ahead of its official unveiling.
