Mazda has readied a mild makeover for its MX-5 roadster, improving the car’s comfort and safety credentials for a small increase in price.

Reworked rear suspension for the soft-top roadster and hard-top RF includes new bushes and bump stops intended to improve the car’s composure over big bumps.

Extra sound insulation and vibration-dampening material should make the cabin quieter, helped by changes to the car’s floorplan.

MX-5 GT models now benefit from lane departure warning and adaptive LED headlamp systems that should make it safer on the road while adding $1320 to the car’s bottom line.

Two new colours - machine grey and soul red crystal – bring a subtle change to its looks.

Engines and transmissions remain unchanged across the range, which offers a choice of 96kW 1.5-litre or 118kW 2.0-litre engines and six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
