Mercedes-AMG has honed its heavyweight C63.

Revealed today ahead of its public debut at this week’s New York motor show, the brutal executive express features revised exterior styling and an updated cabin with the latest in technology.

Available in four different body styles – sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible – the C63 falls in line with the recently facelifted C-Class range upon which it is based and is due to go on-sale in Australia in August.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has yet to lock-down final price and specifications for the updated range, but it is expected to continue to be exclusively offered in top-spec C63 S variants with marginal price increases over current models, which start at $157,211 (plus on-road costs) for the most popular four-door sedan.

Key among the upgrades is a new-look front-end that adopts AMG’s new signature Panamericana-inspired grille with a series of vertical slats and redesigned fins in the outer air intakes, which Mercedes claims gives the car an even stronger aesthetic.

The rear bumper has also been remodelled with revised twin-outlet tailpipes finished in high-gloss chrome on either side of a bolder diffuser.

Inside the cockpit, the instrument cluster is now a 12.3-inch fully-digital screen that can be configured in three different themes – Classic, Sporty or Supersport – and displays a multitude of information, including turbo boost pressure, g-forces, a race timer and a new AMG Track Pace function (that may be an optional extra) which can showcase circuit track maps with individual sector and lap times.

The function can also be linked to the colour head-up display, with upcoming bends, braking marker points, lap delta speeds and optimum lap times.

It measures over 80 different paramaters up to 10 times per second using GPS data, accelerometers, gyroscopes, wheel speed sensors and steering angle. The system has a number of circuits pre-loaded in its memory, such as the Nurburgring in Germany and Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps, but it is not known whether any Australian circuits are featured. In any case, the GPS data can record individual circuits, and all of the data can be stored and reviewed after track sessions.

Sitting on top of the centre console, the C63 features a new, larger 10.25-inch colour multimedia system that integrates sat nav, connectivity, vehicle settings and the audio system with a new-look Comand interface that features Mercedes’ latest Energizing function that links music with ambient lighting, air conditioning and the seat heaters and massage functions to create different moods within the cabin.

Elsewhere, the C63 picks-up the latest-generation AMG three-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel with touch pad controllers for the instrument cluster (left) and multimedia system (right). It can also be equipped with a round controller under the right-hand spoke that toggles through the multiple drive modes, displaying the chosen setting on a colour LCD screen on its face, while two additional colour-display buttons on the opposite side provide easy access to other AMG-specific functions such as personal preference settings for the suspension, exhaust, steering and engine response.

All C63 variants will continue to be powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 375kW and 700Nm in the top-spec S configuration, and drive the rear wheels through an electronically-controlled limited slip differential via a revised nine-speed automatic with a wet-clutch pack rather than a conventional torque converter.

Mercedes says the transmission has been recalibrated with “defined ignition adjustments” that ensure quicker upshifts, giving the C63 S Coupe the ability to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 290km/h.

Full local details of the updated Mercedes-AMG C63 range will be released closer to the local launch in August.
