Toyota TRD Camry teased
Toyota will unveil a TRD performance version of its Camry sedan at the Los Angeles next month.
The Japanese giant released a teaser video of the sports sedan this week, revealing a number of Toyota Racing Developments upgrades for the mid-sized sedan.
Lower skirts add a touch of purpose to the Camry’s already-sporty bumpers, joining sharp-looking black wheels home to red brake callipers and a two-tone black and white paint job on the outside.
The rear end is home to a black spoiler, dual sports exhaust tips and a red TRD badge.
Interior changes include black and red seats, along with red seat belts.
Toyota has not released full details surrounding tweaks to the Camry and its Avalon twin, though a video released by the brand suggests the duo feature a louder exhaust than regular models.
The brand has form tuning medium-sized sedans - Toyota Australia offered TRD versions of the Aurion sedan and HiLux ute with supercharged V6 engines in 2007.
We don’t know whether the TRD Camry will be offered in Australia, though there is a chance components from the car could find their way into showrooms. The TRD components could also fall under Toyota's new Gazoo Racing or "GR" brand, which is associated with the new Supra sports car as well as Toyota's rally and endurance racing motorsport programs.
UPDATE: Toyota Australia has released a statement surrounding America's TRD Camry:
"At this stage, nothing similar is planned for Camry locally. Any future Toyota performance models or sport variants in Australia will be branded under GAZOO Racing."
