Just days after it confirmed it was returning to the Australian market, SsangYong has revealed its new Musso ute.

While not officially announced for the Australian market yet, details of the new South Korean dual-cab were released for the British market which gives an indication of what we can expect.

It’s based on the same body-on-frame underpinnings as the brand’s Rexton SUV, giving the Musso has competitive credentials. SsangYong claims it has a one-tonne payload and a 3500kg towing capacity. The tray is bigger than the outgoing model too, measuring 1300mm long, 1570mm wide and 570mm deep.

Under the bonnet is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel with 133kW of power and 400Nm of torque. It’s paired to the choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and comes standard with four-wheel drive.

In the UK SsangYong offers three models - EX, Rebel and Saracen - and even the entry-level model come reasonably well equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, automatic headlights, manual air conditioning, Bluetooth and digital radio.

In the UK SsangYong is covering the new Musso with a seven-year warranty, something that would be class-leading if it was offered locally.

SsangYong is set to return to the Australian market by the end of 2018 with the Rexton, Tivoli, Tivoli XLV and Musso.
