Holden has confirmed it will sell the Z71 Colorado Xtreme down under.
As first reported by Drive.com.au in June, Holden has officially announced the toughened-up Colorado Xtreme which is already on sale in New Zealand will go on sale here later this year.
Priced at $69,990 driveaway, the Xtreme commands around a $10,000 premium over the permanent flagship Z71 and is priced closer to rivals such as the Toyota HiLux Rugged X and its own HSV Colorado Sportscat.
Inspiration for the model comes from the Colorado Xtreme Concept vehicle unveiled at the 2016 Bangkok motor show and, like that vehicle, standard accessories fitted to the production model have been designed and produced by GM’s Australian team based in Port Melbourne.
The highlight of design work is the factory-fit bullbar with LED lights, Warn winch and bash plate.
In total, Holden says that the equivalent of $19,000 in added value has been equipped to the Xtreme model including the best in-class winch system that has a 10,000lb load capacity and 30m synthetic line, bash plate, recovery hooks, black grille, bonnet bulge, flared guards, rear sports bar, tonneau cover, black tubular steel side steps and rear bar, steel roof tray kit, towing pack and unique 18-inch alloys with 265/60 Goodyear Wrangler all terrain tyres.
The front suspension has been made firmer to cope with the added weight over the nose but there are no further chassis tweaks underneath.
The engine remains the same 2.8-litre diesel turbo four-cylinder engine producing 147kW of power and 500Nm of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Connected to low-gear four-wheel drive system the ute has a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.
While clearly targeted at off-road and tow markets the Xtreme does not gain a rear-differential lock, though Holden marketing manager Andre Scott says the vehicle is one of the most capable dual-cab utes as is.
“As a base vehicle, Colorado Z71 is already very capable, so we’ve expanded our genuine accessories range for additional off-road capability. Cue the Holden winch system, the Xtreme’s hero accessory, which is a game-changer.
“Backed up with a long list of accessories, customers can have confidence that their ute will not only look rugged but will be able to perform in the harshest of environments.
“The top end of LCV market continues to develop, and we’re seeing a growing number of customers demanding greater off-road capability.”
The limited edition Colorado Z71 Xtreme goes on sale from October 1 and is priced at $69,990 driveaway.
