V8 utes will be back on the menu for Australian enthusiasts when Ram’s 1500 pick-up goes on sale mid-year.

The American-built, FCA-sourced ute will be imported by ATECO, importers responsible for larger Ram 2500 and 3500 pick-ups as well as Australian distribution for brands such as Maserati and LDV.

Prices and specifications for the model have not been confirmed beyond a 5.7-litre V8 likely to offer 294kW of power and around 556Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission can be paired with rear or four-wheel-drive in the US, where the baby Ram is rated to tow around 4700kg.

Australian models could feature an 8.4-inch touchscreen with sat nav and Apple CarPlay along with a 7-inch digital driver’s display and nine-speaker Alpine stereo.

Confirmation of the Ram’s local introduction represents a victory of sorts for ATECO, as Fiat Chrysler’s official Australian presence also hinted at plans to import the model.
