Renault has brought back the Trafic Formula Edition to local showrooms.

The French marque's special edition van won't set any lap records, but it will stand out from the crowd with a range of cosmetic treatments.

Available in either grey or black as well as short or long wheelbase, the Trafic Formula Edition is limited to 125 examples nationally.

The limited editions are priced from $41,990 before on-road costs for short wheelbase models and $43,490 for the long wheelbase examples. Both variants command a $4000 premium over the standard models.

Exterior highlights include body coloured front bumper, taillight surrounds and door rails, black 17-inch alloy wheels with yellow centre caps, black Renault front badge, yellow grille inserts and fog light surrounds, side stripes and an anti-theft spare tyre holder.

Inside the Formula Edition is kitted out with a heated driver's seat, chrome touches throughout along with elements of gloss black and leather and unique 'Formula Edition' floor mats.

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel unit that makes 103kW and 340Nm that is paired to a six-speed manual, which will mean the Formula Edition will feel more at home at the back of pit lane than on the track.

All variants have a 1.2-tonne payload and a 2-tonne towing capacity.

The Renault Trafic Formula Edition is now in showrooms.
