Fiat’s crossover hatch has received a much-needed facelift with a new range of quiet, more fuel-efficient engines, according to the brand.

The Italians have spent 60,000 hours testing and developing the all-new FireFly Turbo engines, built to replace the models previous four-cylinder Fire engine options.

In the FireFly range, you can get a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission that produces 88kW of power and 190Nm of torque, or a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired to a six-speed DCT automatic transmission, producing 110kW and 270Nm of torque.

Fiat claim the FireFly engines are 20 per cent more fuel-efficient than the brand’s older petrol engines and are made entirely of aluminium alloy, weighing only 93kg.

Technology has been upgraded with Traffic Sign Recognition, Speed Advisor and Lane Assist as standard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come built-in to its 7.0-inch touch screen display.

The steering wheel has been updated, now made of Techno-leather, and contoured for safer driver grip.

On the outside, out-dated Xenon headlights found on the previous model have been replaced on the 500X with LED headlights and daytime running lights. Rear LED light clusters also come standard.

Base-model Urban gets refreshed front and rear bumpers while the Cross and City Cross get new-look skid plates.

Fiat have also introduced three new colour options - Pearl White, Italia Blue and Techno Green.

The crossover 500X is still available in three MultiJet Turbo Diesel options which Fiat has also upgraded to now meet Euro 6/D-TEMP compliance.

The Abarth 595 hatch has also been updated with two new colour options and a sportier exhaust.

Standard on the Competizione and Trofeo models is a Record Monza Active exhaust giving the hatch a distinct tone that Abarth say is a deeper and bolder rumble.

New colour options include Adrenaline Green for the Competizione and Trofeo trim levels, and Asphalt Grey for the Turismo.
