MG eZS electric SUV revealed
MG has unveiled its new fully electric SUV at the Guangzhou motor show.
The EV is based upon MG’s ZS compact SUV and has been named the eZS.
Powered by a single electric motor producing 110kW and 350Nm of torque, MG claims the eZS has a driving range of 428km at predominantly highway speeds while using just 13.8kW. The battery also has fast charging capabilities - MG claims it can charge to 80 percent in 30 minutes.
Aside from a slight redesign of the infotainment system, the eZS appears to hold very similar aesthetics to its petrol-driven sibling, a factor which some might find attractive.
For now, it appears the eZS will be available exclusively to the Chinese market, where there has been a rapidly increasing demand for EVs.
Talking of the eZS, MG’s Australian marketing head, Danny Lenartic, said: “MG Motor Australia will continue to evaluate the local market demand for the fully electric version of the ZS”.
Given Australia’s small market and lack of government incentives, the eZS will have to perform exceptionally well overseas before MG gains the confidence to launch it in Australia.
The eZS could join a growing league of more affordable electric vehicles set to be introduced over the next few years, including the Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen's upcoming range of I.D electric vehicles.
