McLaren has unveiled its answer to the Porsche 911 GT3, a stripped-out, lightweight version of the 570S Coupe.

Named 600LT, the new machine is the fourth McLaren to wear the “longtail” moniker, succeeding the 650S-based 675LT as a weekend trackday weapon.

Weighing in from 1247 kilos with optional carbon fibre gear fitted to the car, the new machine is 96 kilograms lighter than the 570S coupe thanks to extensive use of lightweight material throughout the cabin and bodywork.

Sharper styling includes a new front splitter, rear diffuser and twin exhaust pipes mounted high on the engine cover.

McLaren turned up the boost on its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which serves up impressive 441kW and 620Nm outputs, driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Sticky Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R tyres do their best to get that power to the ground, helped by reworked suspension, quicker steering and upgraded brakes pinched from the more expensive McLaren 720S.

McLaren says production of the new machine is ‘strictly limited’, suggesting it will be more collectable than regular models in the McLaren sports series.

The machine will be built for around 12 months, joining the Senna and upcoming three-seat ‘BP23’ as special-edition machines.

Customers who choose the machine will receive trackday tuition to make the most of its ability.
