LA debut for new Mazda3
Mazda is preparing to usher in a new-generation of vehicles, starting with the next-generation 3.
The Japanese brand has officially confirmed a replacement for the current small hatch and sedan will be revealed at the Los Angeles motor show later this month following an ambigious teaser image that was released a fortnight ago.
It has revealed a little more of the twins with a second shadowy image, showing the silhouette of a silver sedan and the rear-end of a red hatchback.
In a statement confirming its LA premiere, Mazda says "The all-new Mazda3 adopts a more mature interpretation of Kodo design that embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics.
"The arrival of all-new Mazda3 marks the beginning of a whole new generation of Mazda cars that will deliver new dimensions of driving pleasure to customers around the world."
It has yet to confirm whether the new 3 will bring the introduction of its ground-breaking Skyactiv-X engines, which are the first production-ready powerplants to utilise Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology that blends the best attributes of diesel and petrol motors to drastically improve efficiency.
All it says is that the 3 will be based on the next-generation Skyactiv Vehicle Architecture and will have the "latest Skyactiv engines" that "offer responsive control of vehicle speed in any driving situation."
What is clear, judging by the image, is that the car's exterior design has been influenced by the skeel Kai concept that was a star of the 2018 Tokyo motor show.
