Infiniti has teased a sketch of its upcoming electric speedster concept.
A follow up to Infiniti’s grand prix inspired Prototype 9 retro-roadster unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2018, the new single-seater concept will use the same venue on August 23 for its unveil during the Monterey Car Week festival.
Other bespoke brands are also using the event as a launching platform for their ultra-luxury concepts including the Pininfarina PF0 and Bugatti Divo.
Design for the Infiniti concept was headed by ex-BMW designer Karim Habib - now Infiniti executive design director - who oversaw a collaboration between the Nissan offshoot brand’s Japan, UK and US design teams.
Infiniti says the concept car harnesses an electrified drivetrain – whether that be a fully-electric powertrain or hybrid setup is yet to be seen – and suggests there will be electrified performance cars coming into production later, all part of its 2021 plan.
“Our new concept provides clues to where the Infiniti brand is heading,” said Habib.
“For us, electrification means performance – our electrified cars will be powerful, efficient, and a joy to drive, and the new concept is a physical representation of our electrified performance future.”
All will be unveiled on August 23 during Monterey Car Week.
