New Hyundai i30 Prices and Specifications

Hyundai has officially confirmed its next N Performance model - the i30 Fastback N - will be revealed later this year.

The South Korean car maker has this week issued a series of images of the swoopy sibling to the i30 N hot hatch undergoing final development testing at the Nurburgring, acknowledging its existence for the first time ahead of its expected debut at the Paris motor show in September.

It has yet to outline any details of the go-fast five-door Fastback, but you don't have to be a Einstein to figure out it will run the same mechanical hardware as the hatch.

That means it will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo charged four-cylinder that produces 202kW and 353Nm in its top-spec guise, and will drive the front wheels through an electronically-controlled limited slip differential and a six-speed manual transmission.

The Fastback, though, could be the first of the N Performance models to introduce Hyundai's new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic - a gearbox that will be also be offered in the hatch - that will likely shorten its acceleration from 0-100km/h and improve its average fuel consumption despite weighing fractionally more than the five-door due to its larger dimensions.

More details of the i30 Fastback N will be revealed closer to its launch in September, with the car expected to be sold in Australia alongside regular versions of the Fastback from 2019.
