On the list of mechanical changes underneath its skin, the blue oval’s performance hero gets a new set of shock absorbers for improved dynamics as well as optional MagneRide automatic adjustable dampers. New drive settings can also now be saved so that every time a driver gets behind the wheel they are able to easily select their desired set-up.
Power has also been turned up and V8-equipped GT variants receive an additional 39kW and 26Nm bringing total engine output to 339kW of power and 556Nm of torque, while four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang's get a lighter tune that brings total output to 224kW and 441Nm.
Ford has also ditched the six-speed automatic transmission in favour of a new slick-shifting 10-speed auto. Both rear-wheel drive coupe models still come with a six-speed manual as standard while convertible models are only available with an automatic transmission.
Advanced technology propels the brawny coupe into the 21st century, with a 12-inch customisable digital instrument display leading the way. This display allows users to choose between three views – Normal, Sport and Track – but also there is the function to customise the colour and gauge layout to suit their needs.
Ford's upgraded Sync3 infotainment system has also been added to the Mustang. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is viewed through an 8.0-inch screen.
In response to a poor crash test result, the Mustang's safety suite has been boosted with the addition autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, reversing camera and auto high beam all standard.
Outside the Mustang shows a fresh face with revised bonnet, grille and air-intakes helping improve aerodynamics, while fresh LED headlights and taillights combine with a reworked front bumper and a new performance spoiler to bring an altered appearance.
EcoBoost variants also get new 19-inch alloy wheels, while the GT now features quad-tip exhausts inside a black rear diffuser. Factory-fitted leather Recaro sports seats can also be added as an option.
Pricing jumps with the raft of new gear and the EcoBost coupe adds $4000 to start from $49,990 plus on-road costs while opting for an automatic transmission will add $3000 to the price.
V8-powered GT variants jump $5500 to start from $62,990 with a manual transmission or $65,990 with an automatic.
The new Mustang is available locally from the second half of the year.
