Ford’s next family-sized SUV will wear Endura badges in Australia, the brand has confirmed.

After much speculation the blue oval brand has announced that its Territory-replacing import will arrive in Australia from the middle of 2018, providing a much-needed segment-filler between the mid-size Escape and 4x4 Everest.

Despite being sold under the Edge name elsewhere around the world, Ford Australia was forced to change the name to Endura owing to Toyota’s ownership of the Edge badge in locally.

Ford has confirmed that the new five-seat Endura SUV will be offered with diesel power only, despite the fact that the Edge has petrol variants internationally.

The Endura is set to be pitched at the higher end of the volume-selling spectrum with an extensive standard equipment list and a range of driver assistance systems.

With the addition of the larger Endura, Ford will have a full complement of SUVs in which to make a push for greater sales success outside its high selling Ranger dual-cab ute.

“The Endura reflects the dynamic motoring landscape in Australia, where buyers are now looking for more specific features and attributes in their SUVs as opposed to a one-size-fits-all solution,” said Ford Australia president and CEO, Graeme Whickman.

“The appetite for SUVs in this country is impressive, so we’re excited to bring a premium new offering from our global portfolio to local audiences."

The new Ford Endura is due to go on sale in the second half of 2018.
