Fiat is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its iconic Nuova 500 compact hatch, with a version of the current 500 hatch styled to celebrate the original.
Australia will receive just 60 of the 500 Anniversario Special Edition model, each with an individually-numbered build plate and an appearance package designed to honour the styling of the Nuova 500.
Based on the up-spec 500 Lounge model, the Anniversario is available in a choice of two exclusive retro-inspired exterior colours: Sicilia Orange or Riviera Green accented with chrome highlights for the bonnet and mirrors, plus vintage Fiat logos and Anniversario badging.
Inside there’s horizontally-striped fabric seats with contrasting piping while the Anniversario rolls on 16-inch vintage-style alloy wheels.
Carry-over equipment from the Lounge includes a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, navigation, and digital radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, manual air-conditioning, and a 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster.
Under the bonnet is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 51kW and 102Nm.
Perhaps ironically, the Anniversario also arrives in time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the current generation 500 hatch, which first went on sale overseas in 2007.
The Fiat 500 Anniversario is on sale now, priced from $21,990 plus on-road costs.
