Brabus has toughened up the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class.

The German tuning house is set to offer performance and styling updates for Mercedes-Benz's new dual-cab ute, including squeezing more grunt from the X250d variant's engine.

Brabus has extracted an extra 15kW and 60Nm out of the brand's 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit to bring peak outputs to 155kW and 510Nm. The extra push while handy is still well short of the VW Amarok V6 but is about the same as the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor.

Exclusive touches for the Brabus X-Class include LED lights on the roof  for increased forward lighting, a large Brabus badge and unique 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the dual-cab scores stainless steel scuff plates and aluminium pedals and footrests. Customers also have the option to customise upholstery with a variety of leather and Alcantara options available.

Brabus will also ply its trade on the range-topping V6-powered X-Class 350d in the near future.

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class is on sale now locally with prices starting at $45,450 before on-road costs for the entry-level cab-chassis variant and topping out at the X250d dual-cab which is priced from $61,600.
