Brabham Automotive has expanded local operations by claiming The Bend as its official supercar testing ground.

The new motorsport complex located in Tailem Bend, South Australia is home to a 7.77km track that’s the second-longest GT racing circuit in the world and houses a variety of different layouts for drift, rally and four-wheel drives. It will also host round 11 of the Supercars Championship in August.

The new home ground compliments Brabham’s local headquarters and production line at ZF Lemforder’s 15,000 square-metre facility in Edinburgh Parks, Adelaide – where Brabham’s new track-only supercar and subsequent road-going models will be built and next-door to the bygone General Motors Holden Elizabeth plant.

“South Australia has a rich automotive heritage stretching back to the 1920s and Adelaide, in particular, is a centre of excellence for engineering capability and capacity,” said Brabham Automotive commercial director Dan Marks.

"When you consider Adelaide's famed motorsport connections, there is simply no better place for us to be manufacturing high-performance cars."

The announcement was made last night at Electra House in Adelaide where Brabham unveiled a new white and green racing livery for its inaugural model the BT62.

The new track will suit the 972kg purpose-built race car that produces over 1200kg of downforce and is filled with F1-inspired and motorsport-ready components. Limited to just 70 production vehicles – the same number of years since Jack Brabham started his racing career – the $1.82million BT62 has already smashed Phillip Island’s official lap record.

“The Bend is a world-class circuit and a testament to the passion and hard work of Dr Sam Shahin and his team. The track gives the car and the driver a great work out and we look forward to working with The Bend team as our testing programme continues,” said company director and son of Sir Jack, David Brabham.

Brabham has already taken deposits and expects to deliver its first batch of track-only cars later this year.
