BMW has confirmed full local details for its upgraded M2 Competition ahead of it arriving in Australia showrooms from October.

The heavily-modified coupe is more powerful and faster than before, but the extra performance comes with a significant premium.

Available in two model grades - M2 Competition and M2 Competition Pure - with both featuring a slightly de-tuned version of the twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder from the M3 and M4, the entry price has increased by $10k to now start at $99,900 for the Pure (although first deliveries of that model aren't expected to arrive until early in 2019.)

The regular M2 Competition will cost $104,900 (plus on-roads). A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will be standard fitment but a six-speed manual transmission will be a no-cost option in both variants.

Standard equipment for the M2 Competition Pure includes 19-inch alloy wheels, sports seats, an 8.8-inch colour display with sat nav, Bluetooth, digital radio and the option of smartphone mirroring, as well as a comprehensive suite of safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The M2 Competition adds full LED headlamps, electric adjustment for the front seats, keyless entry and a higher-grade Harmon Kardon audio system.
