BMW confirms X5 pricing
BMW will start small with the new generation X5 range.
Initially there will only be two choices, the xDrive30d and M50d, when the fourth-generation X5 arrives in local showrooms in November. BMW Australia confirmed local pricing and and specifications for both models this week.
Despite sitting on new underpinnings and featuring upgraded engines, the the 30d will start at $112,990, the same price as the outgoing model, while the M50d is priced from $149,900, a $4910 increase.
Motivation for the 30d comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel producing 195kW of power and 620Nm of torque. It’s paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Standard equipment on the 30d includes the XLine trim package, 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights with high beam assist, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone air-conditioning, 10-speaker sound system, digital radio and ambient light. Notably it will include Apple CarPlay as standard too, something that has be optional on recent models.
Safety gear includes BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional suite that incorporates automated emergency braking, parking assistant plus, 3D parking camera view, active cruise control, front and rear cross traffic warning and active lane keeping assist.
The popular M Sport package is available for an extra $4000 and adds 20-inch M Sport alloys, M Sport brakes, adaptive suspension, M aerodynamic package, M leather steering wheel, M Sport pedals and M specific instrument panel.
Under the bonnet of the M50d is a quad-turbo version of the 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel making 294kW and 760Nm. It gets a specifically tuned eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive system, plus the option to add an M Sport differential for improved performance.
The M50d comes equipped with 22-inch M SPort alloys, BMW laserlights, M Sport brakes, M aerodynamic package, soft-close doors, four-zone air-conditioning and 16-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system.
Additional models are expected to join the range in 2019, including the plug-in hybrid X5 45e which can travel up to 80km on battery-power alone, as well as variants that will bookend the family with an entry-level, rear-drive version, a six-cylinder petrol X5 40i and a replacement for the high-performance X5 M.
