A new variant of the BMW X1 family is set to arrive in Australia, bringing the price of entry down in the process.
BMW will add the X1 sDrive 18i as a new variant in the range, slotting the model in beneath the previous price-leading X1 sDrive 18d
Priced from $45,900 before on road costs, the new 18i features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine - shared with the Mini hatch - which produces 100kW and 220Nm matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.
This new point of entry represents a $4000 saving over the next model up, the diesel-powered X1 sDrive 18d which has also had a slight price adjustment, coming down by $700 to $49,900.
Standard equipment in the 18i includes 18-inch alloy wheels, auto tailgate, LED headlights with auto high beam, 6.5-inch touchscreen with reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, 5.7-inch digital instrument display, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning.
BMW will also offer packaged upgrade options including the Comfort Package with auto-dimming mirror, adjustable rear seats and climate control ($1500), Innovations Package which upgrades to connected infotainment with navigation, plus a head-up display (2600), or the Comfort Package adding heated front seats with power adjustment, anti-dazzle driver's mirror, and proximity entry.
The new BMW X1 18i is available from February, 2018.
