Six houses or one car. That’s the choice Australia’s high fliers now face as boutique Italian supercar brand Pagani has officially arrived locally.

Taking advantage of relaxed importation laws for ultra-exclusive high-performance machines recently introduced by the Federal Government, Melbourne’s luxury car dealership network, Zagame Automotive, has added Pagani to its roster of high-profile brands, such as Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, McLaren and Rolls-Royce.

Zagame Automotive has become just one of 24 authorised Pagani dealerships across the globe, and one of only a handful that showcases the brand to its full potential with a dedicated retail space at its showroom in the Melbourne suburb if Richmond.

“Pagani is beyond the realms of what we call super cars,” said principal Bobby Zagame, who was joined by founder Horacio Pagani in Melbourne.

“These are hyper cars. They exist in a different dimension. Until you see a car like the Pagani Huayra, let alone drive one, the whole concept of a Pagani is almost unimaginable.

“This is the synthesis of art, jewellery and technology coming together to create the ultimate automotive masterpiece. A true collector’s piece.”

Zagame Automotive has secured a handful of the 100 Huayra Roadster models for sale in Australia, each with a starting price of $5.5 million.

While that is the most expensive new car on-sale in Australia, and equivalent to six houses at the current national median, exclusive high-performance machines such as the Pagani have proven to be lucrative investments recently, with prices for collectable cars rising by an average of 20 percent per annum over the last decade.

Each of the Huayra Roadsters allocated to Australia will be built in right-hand drive and are able to be registered and driven on local roads.

The cars are hand built by master craftsmen at Pagani’s headquarters near Modena in Italy and take four months to create. The mid-engined machine is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine specially made for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG that delivers 562kW of power and 1000Nm of torque.

Unusually, the Huayra Roadster weighs less than its fixed-roof sibling – 80kg lighter – thanks to a lightweight chassis made from a mixture of carbon fibre and titanium which Pagani claims is also 52 percent stronger than the conventional carbon fibre tub used for the Huayra coupe.

The Roadster can be ordered with either a removable lightweight roof with a glass panel or a fabric soft-top that can be stowed under a carbon fibre cover.

Customers have myriad of options in personalising the exterior and interior of the car as everything is hand made to exact specifications.
