Australia, meet your new Chevrolet Camaro.

The American brand has detailed changes for upcoming performance focused coupe, which included revised styling and a new automatic transmission.

HSV has already announced a new partnership with Holden which would see the tuning house import and convert to right-hand drive the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS for local roads, with conversion work commencing in July, 2018.

Headlining the revised specification is a new 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for the Camaro SS and the addition of crucial new safety tech such as forward collision alert and a rear camera mirror.

HSV managing director, Tim Jackson, has previously informed drive that a six-speed manual transmission will also be offered from day one.

Cosmetically not much has changed for the SS with a revised fascia, grille, LED headlights and a reshaped hood. The SS also scores altered rear diffusers and tweaked taillights, along with updated 20-inch alloy wheels.

And for those with track aspirations Chevrolet promises a more advanced data recording system.

Chevrolet has not made any changes to the powertrain with the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 that makes 340kW and 615Nm still slated to power the Aussie version of the Camaro. Chevrolet also claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.0 seconds, which is almost a full second faster than the Mustang GT.

Only about 3000 Camaros are expected to be imported and converted by HSV over a three year period, with only the high-specification 2SS offered locally. With the next-generation Camaro set to be built on a global platform which will increase the numbers and bring down the price.

HSV has already stated that the Camaro will wear the Chevrolet Bow Tie in Australia and not the HSV badge.

Local prices for the Chevrolet Camaro will be revealed closer to the vehicles launch date.
