Audi's tech-laden luxury flagship is ready to land down under.
The German marque has announced that its answer to the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be priced from $192,000 before on-road costs, undercutting both of its rivals.
Offered with two engine choices – one petrol and one diesel – each of which is offered in a standard versions and long wheelbase version that adds 130mm to the car's overall length.
Each engine is a 3.0-litre V6 that makes 210kW/600Nm in diesel form and 250kW/500Nm in petrol guise. Both engines utilise mild-hybrid technology to power the starter motor and electrical systems while a small battery is employed when the vehicle is coasting at speeds between 55km/h and 160km/h reducing fuel use. Both engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission only.
The Audi A8 has been built with future autonomous technology in mind, Audi states that the A8 is compatible with 'Level Three' autonomous teechnology and will soon be available with piloted functions.
Inside the A8 features two stacked touchscreens: one 10.1-inch in size and the other 8.6-inch which are combined with the brand's digital cockpit.
Standard safety equipment extends to adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, cross traffic alert, pre-crash systems, autonomous emergency braking, collision avoidance with steering assist, exit warning and intersection assist that alerts the driver for potential crash situations.
The Audi A8 goes on sale locally from mid-July.
