It's not the turbo-charged weapon we'd been hoping for, but Subaru has finally slapped its STI badge on the BRZ coupe.

Revealed today at the 2017 Tokyo motor show, the BRZ STI Sport offers upgraded dynamics and exclusive styling elements, some of which will be made available on an upcoming limited edition in Australia.

Under the bonnet, the car is powered by the standard version of the 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated boxer four cylinder that produces 152kW and 212Nm and will come with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions driving the rear wheels.

But, improving its dynamic qualities, it features specially-tuned Sachs springs and dampers, has Brembo brakes, lightweight 19-inch alloys with high-performance tyres and STI flexible V-braces and front draw stiffeners.

Lending the model a degree of visual identity separate to the regular BRZ, it has a new front bumper with an STI logo in the lower intake and blacked-out mirrors and badges.

Inside, it features a striking Black and Bordeaux red interior trim and piano black dash highlights.

Subaru Australia will confirm exact details of its BRZ limited edition closer to its launch later this year.
