We reported last week that we'd all soon see Lexus LF-A racing in the upcoming 24hr race at the Nurburgring, on the 24-25 of May 2008. Rest easy dear listeners, it's still happening. But now there's some more news on the specifics. And if there's one thing we all love, it's specific details with which to comprehensively brain our colleagues at the office each morning, right?

Toyota's reasoning behind entering the LF-A in the race is so that they can get more data and feedback to improve the development of the roadgoing supercar project. With this in mind, the car entered in the race won't be a fully race-kitted setup. It will maintain the majority of its final street setup, with only the minimum safety equipment installed; roll cage, fuel cell, shiny towing stickers, a guy in a helmet, and so on.

Rather than attempting to achieve a race result, a team of experienced Japanese steerers—perhaps drawn from SuperGT stables—will be charged with the task of providing ongoing feedback throughout the race to the glasses and pocket protectors back in the pits.

In the pits will be a combined team of both newbies and experienced race mechanics, forming part of Toyota's commitment to skills and personal development among young hopefuls.

The LF-A is powered by a high revving 500+bhp V10 mill, and it's expected that this engine will receive no race-specific modifications before it hits the circuit in late May. The engine sits in a front mid-engine position, and is bolted to a rear-mounted transmission and rear-mounted radiators (as seen behind the big speaker covers on the back of the car), allowing for optimum weight distribution and supposedly brilliant handling.

I guess we'll see for sure on the 24th of May.
