Mitsubishi UK will be making a return to circuit racing this weekend when it rolls up to the starting grid of the Britcar Championship 24 hour endurance event at Silverstone, in a race-prepared Evolution X. The 300kW Lancer will be punted around the track by former British Touring Car Championship regular James Kaye. As Kaye intends to use the Evo to contest the 2009 Britcar Championship, the Lancer's performance during the 24 hour enduro will be closely monitored.

ADR Motorsport is responsible for giving the Evo X its race makeover, but details beyond the estimated 300kW output have not been disclosed. Given ADR already campaigns two Evo Xs in the British Rally Championship, it's safe to assume the circuit-spec Lancer will be no shrinking violet.

Mitsubishi UK is pleased to be on board. General Manager for Ralliart, Paul Brigden, explained that if things go well we could see a lot more Evo Xs racing in the future;

"Mitsubishi UK has not been involved with circuit racing for many years, so this new initiative is a great opportunity for us. Subject to the level of interest from competitors, we are also hoping to announce a one-make race-series for the Evolution X soon."

To us, 300kWs, a proven chassis, and an excellent all-wheel-drive setup sounds like a recipe for excitement on almost any race track. A one-make series with the above credentials would be a blast. Hopefully it takes off and we see something similar on our shores in the not-too-distant future. Mitsubishi Australia, take note.
