IF YOU WERE running a list of news headlines you were expecting to see today – that probably wasn’t one of them.

It’s true: according to Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand General Sales and Marketing Manager Peter Wilkins, goats - like the Triton - are “hardy, versatile units which will integrate directly into existing farm operations,” and that’s why the company is offering a free goat with the 2009 Mitsubishi Triton.

The manufacturer’s logic is simple: the New Zealand economy is held up by the rural sector, and with goats taking care of pesky weeds far more cheaply than any pesticide will sort out, it’s the perfect solution for every farm. He didn’t say it, but presumably Wilkins’ next line would have been: “...just like the Triton.”

Our neighbours across the pond need not fear though. If they’re suburbanites without need for a four-legged horned friend, Mitsubishi is just as happy to sell them a Triton without the goat.

Will Mitsubishi Australia make a similar offer? Stranger things have happened. But if you want to know for sure, “any plans to offer a free goat with the Triton?” is a phone call you’ll just have to make for yourself.

In the meantime, take a look at TMR’s review of the 2009 Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R.
