Japanese manufacturers love to give their important cars long names and the Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Version-R is no exception. As if that name wasn’t long enough, Mitsubishi have now tacked on ‘Special’ for the latest tweaked version – the Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Version-R Special.

The ‘Special’ features the same drivetrain and basic package as the standard Version-R, which means there is a 1.5-litre engine supplying 115Kw and 210Nm to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission, which doesn’t sound like a lot of fun until you factor in the Colt’s lithe kerb weight of just 1100kg.

What you do get when you buy the ‘Special’ is increased body rigidity thanks to continuous seam welding of some of the body structure, a 10 percent improvement is claimed over the standard spot welded construction. The result is sharper, flatter, more precise handling and of course a longer name.

While we are lucky enough to have the Ralliart version of the Mitsubishi Colt available in Australia, we unfortunately miss out on the higher spec Version-R and Version-R Special.
