MINI has joined the growing number of brands planning to unveil a new model or concept at this month's Paris Auto Show, with the British carmaker revealing its intentions on its Facebook page today.

Online onlookers will get a first glimpse of the new concept a week before the Paris show however, thanks to a special unveiling in London, open only to press and a few lucky Londoners.

Dubbed a 'design concept', MINI has revealed next to nothing about what we can expect from the concept.

If the covered teaser image above is anything to go by, it could be an all-new variant wearing the classic MINI styling, or something as simple as the anticipated updated Cooper S or Clubman S.

Our thinking is that it's unlikely to be an all-new model, with the company's still-to-be-revealed Coupe and Roadster models expected to hit the market in 2012.

One possibility is a new model based on the Clubman test car spied on the roads of Europe back in July, with speculation at the time suggesting it could be a new hybrid project.

Meanwhile, news out of Oxfordshire on the expected Coupe and Roadster - reportedly due to enter production in mid-2011 - has crawled to a halt. To get the sporty MINIs on the road, around 1000 new jobs are expected to be created at the BMW-owned brand's Cowley assembly plant in the UK.

The Roadster is expected to utilise the 126kW 1.6 litre turbocharged engine found in the Cooper S instead of the John Cooper Works-sourced unit of the Coupe Concept.
