MINI and Airstream announced their joint-venture project back in March, offering up a series of concept illustrations to give us a look at what the two cultural icons had in store for us.

This week, the project has yielded a set of official photos of the results of the collaboration, with the project due to get its in-the-flesh unveilling at the INTERNI Design Energies exhibition in Milan on April 22-27.

Conceived as a 'home-away-from-home' and aimed at the surfing culture, designers Republic of Fritz Hansen fitted out both the caravan and the 2009 MINI Clubman with features recognisably ‘beach life’.

Featuring liberal smatterings of Neoprene - that’s right, wetsuit material - throughout the Clubman’s interior fluorescent green highlights and flower prints, the car and caravan combo play the part perfectly (try saying that last part three times fast).

Other features include a waterproof interior for the caravan, along with a table and chair set and shelving made from two surfboard halves.

And if you’re camping on the beach, well, anywhere but the MINI’s homeland, there’s a handy sun bed for getting your tan action.

The rear seats of the Clubman have been tossed, replaced with custom-built space for diving equipment (sorry Tony, those are oxygen tanks, not NOS tanks).
