Honda announces V10 NSX debut delayed

Honda CEO Takeo Fukui has told Autocar Magazine that the launch of it’s Acura brand in Japan has been put back. Along with this delay he also announced that the Acura badged replacement for the NSX will not be launched at this years Tokyo Motor Show.

The test mule(s) is a bent and stretched S2000 and quite obviously in the early stages of engine and maybe chassis development so this news doesn’t come as a big surprise to this writer. In fact, it would be more surprising if they did present the new Acura NSX at this years Tokyo Show.

Honda are now remaining tight lipped about when we can expect to see the NSX, while they say the launch of the Acura brand in Japan is not likely to happen before 2010. Concerns as to the suitability of the Acura brand in Japan is the main reason cited by Fukui for its delay, while a spokesperson for Honda has denied that the delay has anything to do with the NSX replacement not being ready.

While it is unfortunate, we do have two future Japanese supercars to get excited about in the form of the Nissan GT-R and the Lexus LF-A so while this is a disappointing set-back for supercar fans it just means there is more to look forward to from Japan in a few more years.
