Despite making its debut in 1995 as the MG F, MG's TF roadster resolutely refuses to die. Last revised in 2002, the MG TF was popular in its day, but looks thoroughly dated now.

But that hasn't deterred MG's new owners, SAIC. The Chinese conglomerate intends to keep the TF alive kicking for at least a few more years, and plans to release two new variants this year.

The lower-spec TF 135 will go on sale in the UK this spring at a cost of £13,511 (AU$27,200), and will be joined later in the year by an 85th Anniversary Edition. The TF 135 won't be all that much different from previous models, but the limited-edition 85th Anniversary Edition packs in a number of enticing bits of kit.

The suspension has been thoroughly revised for the 85th Anniversary TF, with thicker swaybars, lower springs and Bilstein dampers imparting a sportier feel on the aging roadster. It also gets a new wheel design, aubergine leather trim and a pretty naff stripe kit. Oh, and it'll cost you £15,664 (AU$31,500).

With the TF getting pretty long in the tooth, MG will need to give it more than just a suspension tune-up and a few light cosmetic changes to keep it fresh. However, with parent company SAIC still a long way from introducing an all-new replacement, it seems the TF may be with us for some time yet.
