Mercedes Developing Non-Turbo Version Of New V8: Report

Following speculation over whether its updated C 63 AMG would draw power from the brand's existing 6.2 litre V8 or the new twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8, new reports suggest Mercedes-Benz is developing a non-turbo version of the new engine.

According to US magazine Autoweek, the naturally-aspirated 5.5 V8 will produce around 315kW - some 85kW less than its turbocharged counterpart. 

If these reports are to believed, it is likely that this engine will make its way into the C 63 AMG sedan and coupe, giving the relatively small models a more manageable output.

Interestingly, the report - and others overseas - claims that the updated sedan will retain its existing 6.2 litre V8, 

The new engine would also be more 'on part' with its opposite number at BMW, with the current M3 developing 309kW and hitting 100km/h in just under 5 seconds.

Depending on its timing, we can likely also expect the lower-output V8 to drive the new SLK 55 AMG, expected to make its debut early next year.
