Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG To Get Drop-Top Variant: Rumour

Hollywood starlets and talentless socialites take note: a roofless variant of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG may hit the market by 2011.

With the outgoing Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster proving popular amongst the world's moneyed-up elite, it would be surprising NOT to see an SLS roadster pop up in the near future.

French car mag L'automobile says a drop-top variant may be closer than we think, with an SLS roadster tipped to arrive in 2011 - just one year after the SLS coupe is expected to land in showrooms.

Details are scant at this stage, and it's unclear whether the roadster will employ a SL-esque folding hardtop or use the SLR's more traditional fabric roof. The coupe is expected to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and an official word on the roadster may be issued then. Stay tuned.
