In the wake of Victoria's devastating weekend bushfires, Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced that it will contribute a generous $107,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Fund.

The bushfires claimed the lives of more than 130 people during the weekend, injured hundreds more, laid waste to several country towns and farms, and destroyed vital infrastructure in the region. Rebuilding the houses, buildings and townships that were lost will be a lengthy and expensive process, but Mercedes-Benz's donation will certainly help the cause.

Mercedes' fund-raising effort won't end just there however, as the company will be passing the collection plate among its staff to add to the amount already pledged. Mercedes will also be lending assistance to its bushfire-hit finance and insurance customers to help them with loan repayments and insurance claims.

Western Australia has donated $1 million to the fund as well, and the Australian Red Cross says over $1.6 million has been raised thus far. Donations can be made through the Red Cross by calling 1800 811 700, or by visiting their website. People are also being encouraged to donate blood through the Red Cross Blood Service, which can be reached by calling 13 14 95.
